UK is Out.

I'm pretty sad tonight. In the past four hours or so, I have jumped to my feet several times. I have screamed. I have hung my head low (when I wasn't shaking it in disbelief). I have wanted to curse, but refrained from doing so due to being in the presence of a Christian. Why was I doing all this? Well, because UK was playing UCONN in a match that, if won, would take them to the championship game against Butler. Unfortunately, my University of Kentucky Wildcats lost tonight's game by only one point. The final score: 55-56. Terrible.
Had UK been able to actually make half the goals they shot for, we maybe could have taken the game. The truth is, the Wildcats sucked at shooting tonight, and they weren't much on rebounds either. They missed over half of the three pointers they attempted, and with only seconds left on the clock (about the same amount that was left on the shot clock for UCONN), one of our players fouled a UCONN player and pretty much killed any chance for us to tie the game in the seconds remaining. Of course, the fouled UCONN player hit both free throw shots, making it impossible for us to tie the game and go into overtime. At the buzzer, a UK player hit a nice three pointer, but that still left us one point shy of a tie game, and no one on UCONN's team was stupid enough to foul us at that point. I could see their coach at the end of the last time out called yelling, "don't foul!!!" I couldn't hear him, but it was pretty clear what he was insisting.
The Wildcats kept the game close all throughout, but shot after shot I watched them miss with UCONN getting the rebounds. I had hope, but in those final few seconds, I knew the deal was sealed. UK would lose and no longer be a contender. UCONN will go on to play Butler in the championship game. It's sad as hell, and I feel like they should have played a lot better. Still, sad as it is, I'm proud of my Kentucky Wildcats.
There's always next year.

That's depressing.
I'd have rather lost horribly than to have lost by 1 teeny little point.
@the_rocking_of_socks - I know, right? It's awful. :( It's much easier to take when the the loss is a big one. To sit and watch the whole game thinking you have a shot till the very end...ugh! Pretty sad.
there are times when I really like Calipari but then there are times when I really question his ethics. I hope he can keep a few of those players and they don't all go pro.
@godfatherofgreenbay - Yeah me too. We'd probably have an awesome team if we could hang onto our good players. Maybe this year we will.
I guess I am used to Wisconsin and how most all those players stick around all 4 years
That is a damned shame. I bet they will be hanging tier heads in shame at such a near miss.I am sure they regret their missed opportunity.
